If you've had your locs for years and they are begining to thin at the base it is time to start thinking about trimming them down. If you have had your dredlocks for a while and yo want a different look without completely cutting them off them a shaping will be good for your locs as well. below is a sstep by step guide to trimming locs enjoy.
Tools you will need for trimming Sisterlocks(tm) or Micro Locs
Eyebrow scissors*
I like to use eyebrow scissors for smaller locs because its easier to cut exactly what you want and less chance of taking off more than you need to when cutting you locs. You can also use these to clean up your sisterlocks(tm) or micro locs
1) Hold the loc straight out at a 90 degree angle
2) Cut the ends on a slant (if done properly the ends with have a V shape)
3) I like to cut on an angle because it looks more realistic almost as if the hair has just grown out that way. You can avoid having the mop top look when you cut each loc on an angle.
4) Picking up the locs first before cutting will help the locs fall in layers instead of blunt and bulky looking.
Tools you need for trimming Traditional Locs
- I like to use long blade scissors to trim thicker locs as they tend to really look like a mop top when cut.

- Angle the scissors against the loc you are cutting(always work with one loc at a time)
- Begin slicing slowly from the ends and come up the loc at a 45degree angle this will give the ends a V shape.
*If your locs are fairly new 1-3 years old you may want to wait before deciding to trim as this may cause the loc to unravel.
